What a pipe fitter does on a project

A pipe fitter turns drawings and isometrics into finished pipe systems: new builds, modifications and maintenance on process, steam, water, gas and chemical lines. Fitters work hand in hand with welders and smiths, and the quality of the fit up decides whether a system can be pressure tested and handed over on time.

On a live plant this takes discipline: permits, isolations and a tidy work area. We brief our people on that before they start.

Typical tasks

  • Reading isometrics, P&IDs and installation drawings
  • Measuring, cutting, fitting and preparing pipe
  • Installing pipe, valves, fittings, hangers and supports
  • Fit up and alignment ahead of welding
  • Flange assembly and bolt tightening to the correct torque
  • Preparing for and taking part in pressure testing
  • Removal and replacement during shutdowns

Certificates and courses we typically check

Requirements for pipe fitters vary a lot between sites. We start from yours and typically check:

  • Trade certificate or documented experience as a pipe fitter
  • Experience with the materials and pressure classes in your scope
  • Safety courses the site requires, such as working at height, scaffolding and MEWPs
  • References from earlier projects and a CV known from previous work

How we deliver pipe fitters

Andrei chooses people he has worked with or knows through their work. He matches their experience to your materials and processes and checks certificates before the start. If he does not have the right person, he says so.

We arrange a weld test before the start if the job calls for one. Andrei is there at the start and remains your contact.

Workforce Partner is the employer and handles contracts, wages, tax, insurance, workwear and personal PPE. Our people normally work with your tools.

One clear hourly rate for the work. We arrange housing and transport. Housing costs depend on the location and are agreed for each job.

FAQ

Can your pipe fitters read isometrics?

Yes. Andrei picks pipefitters he knows through their work, who work to isometrics and your procedures.

Can we get pipe fitters and welders as one crew?

Yes. Many clients book fitters and welders together so fit up and welding move at the same pace.

Can you staff a shutdown at short notice?

Tell us the scope and dates. Andrei will tell you honestly whether he has the right people and when they can start.
